Eastern Ontario Legends Series is Ready to Rock Peterborough’s Autumn Colours Classic

The 2017 regular season for the Trailers Plus Eastern Ontario Legends Series is about to see its checkered flag as the popular travelling tour heads for the 25th Anniversary edition of the Autumn Colours Classic – October 6th through 8th – to crown its annual champion at Peterborough Speedway.

Its been a great year for EOLS drivers and teams. And the excitement continued Saturday, September 23rd at Sunset Speedway, as Kevin Foisy picked-up the main event victory, with Miles Tyson and Matt Haufe following the driver of the #57 machine across the line. Jeff Drimmie – who along with Foisy, Andrew McFadden and Geordie Ledson make up the Eastern Ontario Legends team officials – says everyone will be doing their homework in a quest to add an Autumn Colours Classic win to their resume.

“Even with the level of success we’ve already achieved, this could be our biggest event of the year,” Drimmie said. “One driver will be named the Autumn Colours Classic champion, while others throughout the field will have the chance to improve their position in the final 2017-point standings. It’s a win-win situation for everyone in the Trailers Plus Eastern Ontario Legends Series.”

Matt Haufe, who started the year with an impressive 8 race win streak, currently leads the point standings and the Stittsville, Ontario Speedster looks to have a lock on the series championship. In his rear-view mirror, there is an intense battle for position being waged between Adam Cuthbertson, Jamie Riberdy, Wes Cuthbertson, Cole McFadden and Terry McClelland who are battling it out for the next 5 spots in the running order.

Haufe readily admits that he’d like to add a second-straight Autumn Colours Classic championship to his resume, but a quick check of the standings heading into the province’s premiere auto racing event shows that 45 different Eastern Ontario Legends Series drivers have scored points in at least one feature event this year. The 26 ‘A’ main starters will be chasing a share of a $10,000 race purse. Grand Bend feature winner and Michigan standout Greg Rudzik and 2012 Autumn Colours Thunder Car Champion Smokin’ Joe Adams have also confirmed plans to run with the EOLS teams.

First action for the Trailers Plus Eastern Ontario Legends at the Autumn Colours Classic is slated for Saturday, October 7th, with the tour’s 40 lap regular season finale scheduled for Sunday, October 8th. For details on the Autumn Colours Classic, see www.peterboroughspeedway.com.

East meets west as the Trailers Plus Eastern Ontario Legends Series goes head-to-head against its western counterparts – Saturday and Sunday, September 9th and 10th – for the Fall Classic at Grand Bend Speedway.

After a spring and summer of turning fans onto its exciting brand of motorsports entertainment, EOLS officials and teams are looking forward to being part of the first ever points-paying event for a travelling series to be staged at the Western Ontario facility. Jeff Drimmie – speaking on behalf of the Eastern Ontario Legends Series group that also includes Andrew McFadden, Geordie Ledson and Kevin Foisy – says it promises to be an popular weekend.

“The Saturday event at the oval will offer points and bragging rights for drivers following both the Eastern and Western Series tours,” Drimmie stated. “Sunday will be a non-points event on the road course that will also serve a test session to look at the possibility of adding something different to the schedule for the 2018 campaign.”

In the Eastern Division standings, Matt Haufe looks to have a lock on the 2017 championship, as the Stittsville, Ontario standout holds a comfortable cushion of almost 183 points over second place running Adam Cuthbertson. Wes Cuthbertson is 3rd in the standings, less than 70 points behind his brother. Robin Jongen has taken checkered flags on both the Western and Eastern Series tours. He took the win Saturday, July 15th at Sauble and Saturday, August 5th in the National Qualifier at Sunset Speedway.

Grand Bend Speedway is a ¼ mile stock car oval. Full details about the track and a schedule of events for the Fall Classic Weekend – Saturday and Sunday, September 9th and 10th – can be found by visiting www.grandbendspeedway.com.

Matt Haufe Logs Another Eastern Ontario Legends Series Win at Peterborough Speedway

Canada’s Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval has been very good to Matt Haufe. Since the 2016 running of the Autumn Colours Classic, no other Legends car racer had won a main event at the popular Central Ontario raceway. After his performance Saturday, August 26th at Peterborough Speedway, that streak remains intact. In fact, other than victories by Kevin Foisy and Robin Jongen Saturday, July 22nd and August 5th – at Sunset Speedway – the Stittsville, Ontario speedster has been the only winner on this year’s inaugural Trailers Plus Eastern Ontario Legends Series schedule.

The 25-lap feature event came to the green flag with former Legends champion and Peterborough Speedway Late Model regular Adam Cuthbertson and Jamie Riberdy on the front row. Cuthbertson led through the early stages, with Haufe – who had started outside the 3rd row – taking 3rd with only a pair of laps on the scoreboard. He set his sights on stealing the runner-up spot from Riberdy with 7 complete and had the lead just a couple of laps later.

Riberdy held onto second, as the #88 machine took control of the show. The leader closed on the tail-end of the field and started lapping slower traffic less than a handful of laps from halfway and built-up a 4 or 5 car length advantage on the #6J while working through traffic. An incident in the second turn with 20 laps complete slowed the pace and created a 5-lap trophy dash.

Haufe kept control of the field on the restart and claimed the win over Riberdy, Adam Cuthbertson, Parker Traves and Terry McClelland. Miles Tyson, Jeff Drimmie, Mark Griffin, Rick Eades, Dawson Drimmie, Rob Murray, Wes Cuthbertson and Don Arnott completed the running order.

Trailers Plus Eastern Ontario Legends Series notes: Adam Cuthbertson had a pair of heat race wins, with Haufe and Riberdy taking the others…Next on the schedule will be the year’s only appearance at Grand Bend Speedway, Saturday September 9th. The tour returns to Peterborough Speedway October 6th, 7th and 8th as part of the 25th Annual Autumn Colours Classic.

Sunset Speedway Hosts Eastern Ontario Legends National Qualifier Saturday, August 5th

Sunset Speedway Hosts Eastern Ontario Legends National Qualifier Saturday, August 5th

By Jim Clarke, Clarke Motorsports Communications/First Draft Media

Every local racer dreams of getting their shot at the big time. Saturday, August 5th the Trailers Plus Eastern Ontario Legends Series will host the year’s second National Qualifier; this time at Sunset Speedway, just north of Toronto. On the line will be a trio of guaranteed starting spots for the U.S. Legends Asphalt Nationals – October 13th and 14th – at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Bullring.

This will be another preliminary round to select EOLS representatives for the marquee event. Saturday, July 8th – at Peterborough Speedway – Matt Haufe earned the Pro division spot, with Robin Jongen taking the Semi Pro honours and Kevin Foisy claiming Masters division spot. Jeff Drimmie, speaking on behalf of the Eastern Ontario Legends’ officials, says the tour is looking forward to sending its teams to Vegas.

“I’m probably a little bit biased, but I think our series has some of the best racing in the province,” said Drimmie, who along with Andrew McFadden, Geordie Ledson and Kevin Foisy helps keep the Eastern Ontario Legends Series on the road. “At Peterborough, we had 22 teams looking for the checkered flag and one of the 3 guaranteed spots. I think we’ll have at least that many – and probably more – at Sunset. It has the potential to be one of the biggest events the series has ever run.”

During the first National Qualifier, the Eastern Ontario Legends Series roster was bolstered by the addition of South Carolinian Randy Gunton. He was visiting family members north of the border and brought along his racecar. For his first laps with the series, the driver of the #00 finished 6th. Drimmie says tour officials are looking at getting the word out early, to let drivers from both sides of the border know they’re welcomed to compete.

“We’re putting out a huge virtual welcome mat and hope we’ll have a strong turn-out when the green flag flies – Saturday, August 5th – at Sunset Speedway.”

Matt Haufe Holds the Hottest Hand on the Eastern Ontario Legends Series

Christmas. His birthday. Matt Haufe’s 2017 season on the Trailers Plus Eastern Ontario Legends Series has been a culmination of every special event and cherished memory in the young driver’s life. If there was ever a movie documenting his performance this year, it would likely be a remake of ‘Groundhog Day’. With his 7th checkered flag in as many starts on the tour, Haufe wakes-up every race morning knowing he may very well experience the same result as the time before.

Saturday, July 15th EOLS teams rolled into Peterborough Speedway for the second time in as many weeks. Andrew Massey – a graduate of the home track 4Fun division – and Miles Tyson paced the field from the staging area to the green flag for the 25-lap main event. Tyson – who has made less than a handful of starts this year – took an early lead from the outside, with teammates Cole Ledson and Jamie Riberdy taking the spots behind the #49 car. A yellow flag on the 3rd lap for an incident on the front stretch slowed the pace, with Matt Haufe leading his first laps of the night on the restart.

Cole McFadden – who has been one of the strongest runners on the circuit in recent weeks – moved into 2nd before there were 10 laps on the scoreboard, but Ledson was quick to regain the position. A red flag for a mechanical issue with the #64 of Terry McClelland gave drivers time to plan their late race attacks. Ledson would wrestle the lead away from Haufe on a lap 20 restart, but had it taken away as the white flag waved and Haufe headed to the line with his 7th win of the year. McFadden stole second from Ledson at the checkers, with Riberdy and Adam Cuthbertson rounding-out the top 5. Massey, Wes Cuthbertson, Jeff Drimmie, Rick Eades, Don Arnott, Cory Richardson, Dawson Drimmie, McClelland, Parker Traves, Tyson and Jamie McArthur completed the running order.

Trailers Plus Eastern Ontario Legends Series notes: After experiencing a blown head gasket in his own #79 machine, Adam Cuthbertson’s 5th place effort came at the wheel of Andrew McFadden’s #02…Dave Riopelle was knocked out of action after contact with the wall during qualifying…Heat race wins went to Haufe, Adam Cuthbertson, Wes Cuthbertson and Cole Ledson.

The series returns to action Friday, July 21st with the second of the year’s 2 starts at Kawartha Downs & Speedway, followed by a Saturday, July 22nd show at Sunset Speedway.

Cole Ledson Sets Sights on Peterborough Victory Lane this Saturday

COOKSTOWN, ON – Eastern Ontario Legends Series frontrunner Cole Ledson will be back in competition ‪this Saturday, July 15th at Peterborough Speedway after missing the tour’s most recent stop last weekend due to a scheduling conflict.

After being removed from the series’ championship picture following the missed July 8th race, the Ledson Motorsports camp’s sole focus for the remainder of the 2017 campaign will be to claim as many feature victories as possible.

‘’We aren’t focused on the points chase anymore and that changes what this season is about now,” explains Ledson. “Anytime we roll into a speedway now our focus is on getting to the front and winning – and that’s all. It definitely makes things a lot easier to strategize for. It simplifies things. We aren’t doing math and counting points, we’re strictly trying to win”

With a dedicated team of crew, family members and sponsors behind him, it’s clear that Ledson has newfound focus entering Peterborough.

“These guys work too hard on these cars for me not to bring them a performance they can be proud of,” insists the Bolton, ON native. “That’s all the motivation I need. I’m excited to come out and win for the first time this season”

Ledson has appeared faster in each of his EOLS appearances already this year, and after a number of podium finishes, is ready to leave his mark in victory lane.

“We had a run earlier this season where the car had gotten stronger every time we had it off of the trailer,” says Ledson. “We’re getting so, so close to getting back to that feeling. We’ve put a lot of hours into this car to bring it alive and make sure that it has what it needs to contend with the rest of this field”

“On Saturday, [teammate] Jamie [Riberdy] and I are going to have two fast racecars and we hope to be there when the laps really matter.”

Ledson Motorsports is proud to represent Ledson Investments, GC Self Storage & More, Ledson Wines, Cooksville Tire, Edgehill Insurance, RF Pathways, Shaw Tracking, Trailcon Leasing andPeterbilt Region of London/Ayr.

Eastern Ontario Legend Teams Chase National Qualifier Spots July 8th at Peterborough

It promises to be the biggest event in the history of the Trailers Plus Eastern Ontario Legends Series. Saturday, July 8th, at Canada’s Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval, the popular tour will award a trio of guaranteed starting spots for the US Legends Asphalt Nationals – October 13th and 14th – at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Bullring.

“This will be the first time that Peterborough Speedway has hosted a National Qualifier,” said Jeff Drimmie, who along with Andrew McFadden, Geordie Ledson and Kevin Foisy make-up the team of EOLS officials. “The top finishers in the Pro, Semi-Pro and Masters divisions will each advance to the big show. Teams will be running a 30-lap main event, with increased prize money throughout the field.”

With Matt Haufe already owning a fist full of feature event wins on this year’s tour, he’ll definitely be one of the cars to beat, but Drimmie says he expects every driver in the starting line-up to bring their best run to the table with so much on the line. Series officials have also arranged to have an open test session for Legends drivers – Friday, July 7th, from 4:00 ‘til 7:00 – at Peterborough Speedway. Teams can test (one car on the track at a time) for just $10.00.

On raceday – Saturday, July 8th – pit gates will open at 2:00, with the spectator areas unlocked at 4:00 and the night’s first green flag at 5:00. Because its also Fan Appreciation Night, general admission grandstand tickets are just $2.00.

Matt Haufe Takes His 5th Straight Eastern Ontario Legends Main Event

Matt Haufe Takes His 5th Straight Eastern Ontario Legends Main Event

By Jim Clarke, Clarke Motorsports Communications/First Draft Media

Check any dictionary for a definition of the word ‘domination’ and chances are good that you’ll also see a photo of Matt Haufe along with the description. Saturday, June 24th – at Peterborough Speedway – the driver with Trailers Plus Eastern Ontario Legends Series claimed his 5th straight main event win of the year.

Coming from a starting spot outside the 3rd row, the graduate of the karting ranks set his sights on the front of the field, but his trek was far from a simple journey.

As early as the pre-race practice sessions, Dave Riopelle had shown that he had one of the strongest cars in the pit area and the series veteran was confident that he had the piece to beat. As the field lined-up for the initial green flag, the florescent orange and black machine sat on the outside of the front row, next to Cole Ledson who had also shown some strength during warm-ups.

Ledson grabbed an early lead, but as the lap counter clicked-off 3 complete, Riopelle took control. Haufe slipped into 3rd spot after the races first yellow flag and was running second when the paced was slowed again for a caution flag in turn 2, with 11 laps down. Riopelle kept showing the quick way around, but the #88 machine was never far from his back bumper.

Another yellow flag – again in the second turn – with 19 laps on the scoreboard bunched the running order for a late race showdown. After following the leader for nearly the entire event, Haufe grabbed the lead with less than a handful of laps remaining. Riopelle held-on for 2nd, with Adam Cuthbertson – who had started 16th – 3rd. Ledson and Cole McFadden rounded-out the top 5. Wes Cuthbertson, Robin Jongen, Terry McClelland, Jamie Riberdy, Jeff Drimmie, Shawn Murray, Andrew McFadden, Jamie McArthur, Mark Griffin, Rick Eades, Glenn Lloyd, Cory Richardson, Don Arnott, Dawson Drimmie, Bill Mason, Joe Sherman, Rob Murray and Andrew Massey completed the running order.

Earlier in the day, Riopelle and Haufe split the Eastern Ontario Legends Series qualifying heats.

Matt Haufe Continues His Domination of the Trailers Plus Eastern Ontario Legends Series

Throughout its inaugural season, the Trailers Plus Eastern Ontario Legends Series is making motorsports history. The popular tour is drawing solid car counts and building a high level of fan support at every stop on the schedule. Saturday, June 3rd the group made its second start of the year as part of the 50th Anniversary Season at Peterborough Speedway.

22 teams logged-in to do battle at the venue known as Canada’s Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval, with Cole Ledson and Dave Riopelle leading the pack to the green flag for the 25-lap main event. Before the first lap was scored a yellow flag was displayed and necessitated a complete restart. As series and track officials compared notes for a replay of the initial start, Ledson headed pit-side and would return to track at the tail-end of the field.

Coming from outside of the 3rd row, Matt Haufe had moved into 2nd spot as the lap counter clicked-off 4 complete, but a series of yellow flags with 9, 11, 12 and 14 circuits on the scoreboard slowed his charge to the front. The #88 machine would follow an impressive run by Cole McFadden for about half a dozen laps, before he worked his way into the lead with 18 laps in the record books. From there, the leader worked his way around lapped traffic and held McFadden at bay to take the checkered flag. Ledson, Riopelle and Jamie Riberdy completed the top 5. Mark Griffin, Wes Cuthbertson, Terry McClelland, Bill Mason, Andrew McFadden, Shawn Murray, Brad Haufe, Paul Pierik, Jeff Drimmie, Joe Sherman, Robin Jongen, Dawson Drimmie, Cory Richardson, Rick Eades, Adam Cuthbertson, Don Arnott and Glenn Lloyd rounded-out the finishing order.

Dave Riopelle, Terry McClelland, Matt Haufe and Cole Ledson scored qualifying heat race wins earlier in the day.

Trailers Plus Eastern Ontario Legends Series Notebook: The series started the weekend with a return to Kawartha Downs & Speedway Friday, June 2nd. Matt Haufe picked-up the main event win, with Cole Ledson, Kevin Foisy, Adam Cuthbertson and Wes Cuthbertson completing the top 5.

Grassroots Racing Tackles the Eastern Ontario Legends Series With a Two Car Tag-Team

(April 23, 2017)- An exciting, new short track racing series is about to launch its inaugural season and the two-car team from Grassroots Racing looks to be front row centre as the Eastern Ontario Legends Series kicks things off – Saturday, May 20th – at Peterborough Speedway.

With a solid background in Legends racing – including respective fourth and ninth place point finishes in the 2016 OLS standings – Cole and Andrew McFadden are fine-tuning their equipment for the year’s first green flag.

From humble beginnings in a Mini Stock that carried the handwritten message “small boy, big dreams” on its yellow rookie stripe, Cole McFadden became the youngest feature event winner track history, taking the checkered flag at Peterborough at the age of 12; a record that still stands to this day. A recent graduate of the Mechanical Engineering Program at Georgian College, the 20 year-old from Woodville, Ontario has advanced through the racing ranks and has also made selected starts in an OSCAAR Modified.

While watching his son’s development from the sidelines and serving as coach and mentor for the young speedster, Andrew McFadden caught the driving bug himself, racing motocross for a number of years and then transitioning to modifieds at the former Mosport International Speedway in 2003, before making his debut in the popular, scaled-down machines during the 2010 campaign. The father of two – who also works as an Auto Fab teacher at Dunbarton High School in Pickering – will serve on the Board of Directors with the Eastern Ontario Legends Series. He says he’s looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead.

“Cole and I are both counting on a strong season of action,” Andrew McFadden said. “The new series has gained a lot of positive exposure and teams will be running for some impressive purses at Peterborough, Sunset and Grand Bend Speedways. We’ll also have a couple of National Qualifiers that will give drivers a chance to represent EOLS this fall at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, which should bring some new talent onto the tour.”

Andrew McFadden says he’s pleased to have long-time marketing partners Alex McLeod Legal Services, Link Climate Care, Manilla Chip Truck, DiBello Towing, Red Line Apparel and Grassroots Racing return to the family-owned #02 and #20 rides for the Eastern Ontario Legends Series schedule. The team recently welcomed Brad Davidson Construction and is also interested in hearing from prospective advertisers who are looking for exciting opportunities for 2017 and beyond. Interested parties can contact Andrew McFadden at andrew.mcfadden22@gmail.com or 705.432.2080.

Ledson Motorsports Readying One-Two Punch For 2017

COOKSTOWN, ON- Brothers Nick & Cole Ledson will once again be hunting for victory lane at short tracks across Ontario in 2017, as their Ledson Motorsports outfit prepares for another year of Legends competition against a roster that seems to deepen considerably each season.
For younger brother Cole, the 2016 season was a coming-out party that saw the rising star solidify himself not only as a weekly threat to win at any facility, but also a bonafide championship contender.
“Last season was the most fun I’ve ever had in a racecar,” smiles Cole when asked of his breakout campaign. “It felt like three years’ worth of work all coming together at once. Every week I was more confident and every week the car felt better”
Cole and fellow front-runner Matt Haufe dominated the Ontario Legends Series headlines all season, as they waged a back-and-forth battle for the 2016 series championship that eventually culminated in a final-race showdown. And although Haufe eventually walked out with the victory by a narrow 16-point margin, Cole insists the experience served as the ultimate motivator for a second run towards a first career championship.
“I think Matt and I kept it as close as possible all year, so it was no surprise that the championship came down to the last night,” offers the Cookstown, ON driver. “He gave me the best battle I could’ve asked for. He earned that championship. Running with him week-in and week-out has definitely made me better”
“We’re coming back to win the championship this year,” adds Cole matter-of-factly. “I know that we can do it as a team and I know that I can do it as a driver. I learned a lot about points racing last season that I know will give us an added edge this Summer”
For older brother Nick, the 2016 season presented a number of obstacles to overcome. From mechanical issues to on-track altercations, the 3-time series champion broke through to victory lane late in the season but had overcome more than his share of adversity by the time the dust had settled.
Now, with the 2017 season looming, Nick insists the team has taken a step back from their annual Florida pilgrimage to compete with the INEX Winternationals mini-series in an effort to better prepare for what they hope will be their best season to date.
“We’re taking a step back from running the [INEX] Winternationals this season to give us a better chance at focusing on our Ontario stuff,” explains Nick. “The tour has evolved a lot in the last five years and we’ve really had to evolve with it. To do that, it takes a lot of time and a lot of effort and we want to make sure we’re strong right out of the gate in the Spring. We’re all working hard to do what we can to stay ahead of the curve”
When asked of the difficulties he was forced to work through last season, Nick admits he’s more than ready to return to action in search of more favorable results.
“This is still one of the best teams in the province,” affirms Nick with pride. “2016 had some ups and downs but I’m ready to brush it off. We were still able to win twice against some of the best Legends talent around, so that absolutely tells me that we still have what it takes to compete. It’s just all about making our own luck and finding a way to stay out of situations that can derail your night”
“I know that we can run with anyone on this roster. Cole’s getting better with every race and we’re doing everything in our power to build up our program better than it’s ever been. 2017 is going to be big for us”.

Eastern Ontario Legends Series Takes a New Attitude Into 2017

(March 23, 2017)- The action and excitement of a brand-new race season is about to come to life across the province and the Eastern Ontario Legends Series is ready to make headlines.

The name may be different, but there’ll be no mistaking the brand of exhilaration that fans can expect with this year’s tour – presented by Trailers Plus – rolls to the starting line.

Under the guidance of a new board of directors, a roster of championship calibre competition including Nicholas and Cole Ledson, Matt Haufe, Adam Cuthbertson, Cole McFadden and Dave Riopelle. Veteran campaigners like fan favourite Bill Mason, Jamie MacArthur, Robin Jongen and Terry McClelland, along with newcomers Rob Murray, Joe Sherman, Andrew Massey and Shawn Murray are just some of the names fans can expect to tackle an agenda of four different venues during the season and deliver the goods.

Things get rolling Saturday, May 20th, continuing its long-standing relationship at Peterborough Speedway with seven regular season events during the 50th Anniversary schedule at Canada’s Toughest 1/3-Mile Paved Oval. There has also been a renewed interest from Sunset Speedway, with a handful of shows including a national qualifier Saturday, August 5th. Eastern Ontario Legends Series teams will also be part of a pair of Friday night OSCAAR dates – June 2nd and July 21st – at Kawartha. Grand Bend Speedway has a solo 2017 event on Saturday, September 9th. Andrew McFadden – speaking on behalf of the EOLS Board that also includes Jeff Drimmie, Geordie Ledson and Kevin Foisy – says the tour is looking to make headlines.

“We’re aiming to be strong right out of the box,” McFadden said. “There’s a solid point fund in place and our race purses offer the teams some impressive payout numbers, right across the board. We’re looking to take this series to places its never been before and based on the feedback we’ve had so far, it looks like we’re headed in the right direction. Teams are excited to hit the track and can’t wait for the first green flag.”

McFadden says that having the National Qualifiers on the schedule will give Eastern Ontario Legends Series Racers some extra incentive to put their best effort forward. They’ll be looking to earn a preferred starting spot for the finale at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Bull Ring, October 12th to 15th.
